Stop spreading Aids

Since the beginning of the epidemic, almost 60 million people have been infected with the HIV virus and 25 million people have died of HIV/AIDS-related causes. In 2008, there were an estimated 33.4 million people living with HIV, 2.7 million new infections, and 2 million HIV/AIDS-related deaths. Around 430 000 children were born with HIV, bringing to 2.1 million the total number of children under 15 years of age living with HIV. Young people account for around 40% of all new HIV infections in adults aged 15 and over worldwide. The WHO African Region is the most affected, with 67% of all people living with HIV worldwide, 70% of all new infections, and 91% of new infections among children.

Since the late 1990s, HIV prevalence among adults 15-49 years old has stabilised at about 0.8%. However, the number of people living with HIV worldwide continued to grow and was more than 20% higher in 2008 than in 2000 and 3 times higher than in 1990. The rise in the numbers of people living with HIV reflects the combined effects of continued high rates of new HIV infections and the beneficial impact of antiretroviral therapy, which means that infected people are living longer. New infection rates provide a measure of the spread of the epidemic. The latest estimates indicate that globally the spread of HIV appears to have peaked in 1996. In 2008, the estimated number of new HIV infections was approximately 30% lower than in 1996. An estimated 430 000 new HIV infections occurred among children under the age of 15 in 2008, roughly 16% lower than in 2001. Annual HIV-related mortality appears to have peaked in 2004, when 2.2 million HIV/AIDS-related deaths occurred. The estimated number of HIV/AIDS-related deaths in 2008 is roughly 10% lower than in 2004.

More than 25 million people have died of AIDS since 1981.

Africa has over 14 million AIDS orphans.

At the end of 2008, women accounted for 50% of all adults living with HIV worldwide

In developing and transitional countries, 9.5 million people are in immediate need of life-saving AIDS drugs; of these, only 4 million (42%) are receiving the drugs.

Protect yourself from AIDS. HIV/AIDS can spread only trough unprotected sex, infected blood , infected mother to child and shared needles. Not by the mosquito bites. Stop spreading Aids.
