In humans, the chlamydia bacteria can infect columnar epithelial cells in the genitals and the eyes. However, in crocodiles, the columnar epithelial cells extend from the eye into the lining of the throat and infected young crocodiles are suffocating by the thousands. Chlamydia is a STD in humans, but crocodiles can get it through the water.
